PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

A head refers to a component used to seal the ends of a container to isolate internal and external media, also called an end cap. The heads of cylindrical vessels are generally shells of revolution. Based on surface shapes, heads can be classified into:

• Convex heads

• Conical heads

• Flat heads

• Composite-shaped heads

Convex heads feature outwardly curved surfaces, including:

• Hemispherical heads

• Oval heads

• Dish-shaped heads

• Spherical heads without transition knuckles

Some gas cylinders employ inward-convex composite bottom heads, which ensure structural strength while meeting safety usage requirements.

PRODUCTION STANDARDS

China's existing head standards are formulated separately based on structural types (elliptical, dish-shaped, conical) and forming methods (stamping, spinning). This approach not only creates irrational situations where quality requirements differ across standards but also introduces challenges in head selection and standard revisions.

① Previous head standards were exclusively coordinated with GB150 "Steel Pressure Vessels", only addressing manufacturing, inspection, and acceptance requirements for rule-designed heads. However, China established a dual-track system for pressure vessel standards as early as 1995 (GB150 and JB4732 "Steel Pressure Vessel Analysis Design Standard"). The absence of head standards compatible with analysis design reveals a significant deficiency in China's pressure vessel standardization efforts.

② While GB150 constitutes a mandatory standard, the head standards developed in alignment with GB150 remain advisory (recommendatory). This inconsistency is clearly unreasonable and fails to ensure quality control of heads as critical pressure-bearing components.

APPLICATION AREA

The head is an essential component in pressure vessel equipment for many industries, from petrochemicals, atomic energy to food and pharmaceuticals. The head is the end cap on a pressure vessel and is a major pressure bearing component of the vessel. Its function is sealing. One is to make the top and bottom of the tank shaped pressure vessel, and the other is that the pipeline has reached its end and is not ready to extend further, so a head is used to seal the pipe in a welded form.
